In April 2016, the O’Connell Center temporarily closed for a comprehensive renovation costing $64.5 million. This project aimed to modernize the seating bowl, introduce premium seating options, install a large center-hung scoreboard, upgrade the Florida Gators’ team facilities, and enhance the concourse to elevate the fan experience. The University collaborated with Brasfield & Gorrie, Davis Architects, and TLC Engineering to bring this vision to life. Construction commenced in April, and by December 2016, the O’Connell Center reopened just in time for the University of Florida’s fall commencement ceremonies.
